 Teacher Qualifications

Teachers are hired based upon their moral and intellectual seriousness and dedication to the craft of teaching. All teachers must be “highly-qualified.” Certification for teachers is required.
Applicants for positions in the Grammar School (Kindergarten-5th Grade) should have a broad liberal arts background. Applicants for positions in the Upper School (6th-12th Grade) should have an academic specialty in the subject to be taught. Preference will be given to candidates with an advanced academic degree.
All teachers at St. Johns Classical Academy are responsible for the intellectual and moral atmosphere of the school. As such, candidates should:

  • be well-organized

  • be able to communicate professionally with families

  • exhibit intellectual curiosity

  • use precise, edifying, and moderate speech

  • contribute to a collegial faculty across the school

 How to Apply

Faculty applicants must submit the following:
– Cover letter tailored for the position for which the applicant is applying; please tell us how you learned about SJCA.
– Statement of educational philosophy (500 words or less)
– Resume or curriculum vitae
– College transcripts and any applicable official test scores (unofficial transcripts are acceptable initially)
Staff applicants (non-faculty positions) must submit the following:
– Cover letter for to the position for which the applicant is applying; please tell us how you learned about SJCA.

Please see the link below to the new Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse Education and Awareness website. This site was implemented under the directive of House Bill 531(2025).

As part of these requirements:

"Each specified agency must include a clear and conspicuous link to the webpage on its website and provide the link in all job vacancy advertisements and posts by the qualified entity."

What this means for you: Any job announcement that requires a screening through the Clearinghouse must include a link to this website as of 1/1/2026.
